Over the past eleven years, Mishal Moore and Richard Cortez have perfected their craft by touring across Europe and North America, as solo artists. From countless festivals such as, Musikfest, Pridefest and even the UK’s Lovebox.

To supporting jazz legend, Maceo Parker and pop icon Patti LaBelle. The two accomplished artists have come together to form Baker.

Baker, named after the late, great Chet Baker, transformed from a lone songwriting project to a deeply rooted symbiosis of sound and verse, which produced 22 original compositions within four months. This empirical collection of songs will be released in two parts; a 3 track EP titled Prologue: The Farmers Daughter, followed by the denouement, Metanoia.

Cortez, having independently released 7 albums and Moore’s music licensed in films, commercials [Vanity Fair], and TV shows [The Oscars, Hawthorne], both songwriters combined bring an elevated pedigree of musical execution.

Baker’s current project channels southern rock, soul, folk and jazz. Mishal’s haunting vocals matched with Cortez’ intricate guitar playing is a perfect marriage and a nod to the musical education these childhood friends grew up on.

heartsore: songs for justin is wollenberg record’s 7th independent release by label founder and singer-songwriter richard cortez, available from iTunes, CD Baby and more.

heartsore is a deeply personal narrative on the decomposition of love, the loss of innocence and cortez’ own battles with depression. reckless thrashing electric guitars and moody weeping cellos matched with cortez’ tender and often haunting baritone voice only intensify the experience of devastation and mourning showcased in these 5 original songs. cortez effortlessly emotes gut-wrenching lyrics that seem to have almost been ripped right from the pages a diary or break-up letter.

from explosive epic power ballads “separate ways” and “10,000,” to the sparse and chilling folk-inspired confessional art songs like “wait. i love you, always” and “over, again,” heartsore: songs for justin will resonate with anyone who’s ever loved, lost, and learned to move on.
